New hint of US sanctions on Pakistan amid Iran agreements

In a recent press briefing held in Washington, United States Deputy Spokesman for the State Department, Vedant Patel, reiterated the US government’s concerns over Pakistan’s potential business agreements with Iran. Patel issued a stern warning to individuals involved in promoting such agreements, cautioning that sanctions could be imposed if progress is made in forging new deals between Pakistan and Iran.

Discussing the implications of engaging in business with Iran, Patel emphasized the importance of being cognizant of the threat of sanctions. He explained that Pakistan’s foreign policy stance towards Iran could raise red flags, especially in relation to potential sanctions aimed at preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

Adding to Patel’s statement, another State Department spokesman, Matthew Miller, acknowledged the need for caution when considering trade agreements with Iran. While the US is not currently assessing the imposition of sanctions, Miller advised those venturing into business dealings with Iran to be mindful of the possible consequences.

Miller acknowledged that the United States serves as one of Pakistan’s significant export markets and a key investor in the country’s economy. He stated the importance of maintaining a strong partnership between the two nations, highlighting that Pakistan’s economic prosperity is mutually beneficial and aligns with the interests of both countries. As such, the US looks forward to continuing its collaboration with Pakistan in various economic endeavors.
