No-trust motion against Elahi dismissed; PML-N to submit again

The no-trust motion against Punjab Assembly Speaker Pervez Elahi was dismissed on Sunday after the filer, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz lawmaker Samiullah Khan, did not arrive in the assembly.

The session for the provincial assembly has now been shifted to June 6.

The session was chaired by Panel of Chairmen Waseem Badozai and was adjourned in a mere six minutes.

As the session began, the speaker called out the name of the PML-N legislator who had filed motion, but he was not present in the assembly.

Badozai subsequently disposed of the motion and the session was deferred.

The session began after a delay of two hours as MPAs were stopped from entering the assembly.

Earlier on Monday morning, the Punjab Assembly Director General for Parliamentary Affairs Rai Mumtaz was arrested while a heavy number of police personnel were put on duty around the Punjab Assembly.

Owing to the strict security, even the Punjab chief minister’s security team was not allowed to enter the National Assembly.

Moreover, the PML-N has announced that it would be submitting a no-confidence motion against the speaker again.
