Oath-taking ceremony for Punjab governor postponed

Murtaza announced that the scheduled ceremony for today will now occur on Tuesday, May 7, at 6:00 pm due to unavoidable circumstances. The PPP stalwart clarified that the postponement was necessary for the oath-taking of the nominated Punjab governor.

President Asif Ali Zardari recently approved the appointments of governors for Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and Balochistan provinces. Sardar Saleem Haider Khan, Faisal Karim Kundi, and Jaffar Khan Mandokhail were appointed as governors for Punjab, KP, and Balochistan, respectively.

These appointments were made following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recommendations, in accordance with Article 101 (1) of the Constitution, as stated by a statement from the President Secretariat.

The decision came after PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari nominated Sardar Saleem Haider Khan and Faisal Karim Kundi for the posts of KP and Punjab governors, respectively, as part of the coalition agreement with PML-N following the February 8 general elections. As per the agreement, the PPP would receive key constitutional positions in exchange for its support in forming the government at the Centre.
