Pakistan face Kiwis in decisive 5th T20I

The fifth Twenty20 International match between Pakistan and New Zealand at the historic Gaddafi Stadium today holds immense significance for the hosts, who urgently require a victory to square the series at 2-2.

The series commenced with an unfortunate washout, succeeded by a dominant seven-wicket triumph for Pakistan in the second T20I.

However, despite being labeled a second-string squad, New Zealand mounted a strong comeback, securing two consecutive victories to claim a 2-1 lead.

In a closely fought fourth encounter, New Zealand emerged triumphant by a slim margin of four runs after setting a formidable target of 178 runs.

Despite the commendable effort from Pakistan’s Fakhar Zaman, who notched up a spirited 61 off 45 balls, they fell short of the target.

Both teams have showcased their respective strengths and vulnerabilities, with New Zealand’s captain Michael Bracewell lauding his team’s resilience under pressure while acknowledging Pakistan’s formidable death bowling.

Pakistan’s skipper Babar Azam, on the other hand, acknowledged Fakhar Zaman’s impactful innings but expressed regret over the early setbacks suffered by the team.

The Gaddafi Stadium pitch is renowned for favoring batsmen, evident from the high scores witnessed during the PSL 2024 season, with an average first innings score of 161, making batting first a preferred choice.

Although weather conditions may pose a challenge, with predictions of light rain preceding the match and patchy rain on Saturday morning, conditions are anticipated to clear up by game time, offering an ideal setting for cricket.
