The 5th Round of Pakistan-Canada Bilateral Political Consultations convened in Ottawa, where both parties affirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation across various sectors.
Ambassador Mariam Aftab, Additional Foreign Secretary (Americas), led the Pakistani delegation, while Assistant Deputy Minister (Indo-Pacific) Weldon Epp headed the Canadian team from Global Affairs Canada, as stated in a press release on Saturday.
During the meeting, the two sides comprehensively reviewed their bilateral relations and explored avenues for enhanced collaboration, particularly in trade, investment, education, parliamentary exchanges, counter-terrorism, and people-to-people interactions.
The Pakistani delegation provided insights into Pakistan’s foreign policy priorities and encouraged Canadian businesses to consider investing in Pakistan’s energy, mining, and IT sectors.
Discussions also centered on joint efforts at international platforms, such as the UN, with both sides expressing their commitment to strengthening cooperation further. They expressed satisfaction with the progress made in bilateral relations and pledged to deepen cooperation across all areas of mutual interest.
Additionally, the Canadian delegation was briefed on recent developments in South Asia, including the situation in Afghanistan, Pakistan-India relations, and human rights violations in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
