Palyback singer Ahmed Rushdi remembered

On the occasion of his 88th birth anniversary, celebrated on Wednesday, the legendary playback singer Ahmed Rushdi was fondly remembered.

Born on April 24, 1934, in Hyderabad, he is hailed as Pakistan’s first pop singer.

Rushdi commenced his career by performing on Radio Pakistan Karachi’s program “Bachon Ki Dunya.”

His debut song for the film “Anokhi” marked the beginning of his illustrious journey, earning him fame with a song featuring actor Alauddin.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Rushdi’s mesmerizing voice graced numerous films, earning him three consecutive Nigar Awards for his contributions to films like “Spiran,” “Mehtab,” and “Aanchal.”

Additionally, he was honored with the Sitara-i-Imtiaz, as well as the Artist and Millennium Awards.

Rushdi’s voice deeply impacted the era’s heartthrob, Waheed Murad, one of the most beloved actors of his generation.

Rushdi passed away on April 11, 1983, at the age of 49, leaving behind a musical legacy cherished by fans to this day.
