PCB’s policy cast doubt over Shaheen’s inclusion in first two NZ T20Is

In a concerning development for the Pakistan cricket team, it’s likely that star pacer Shaheen Afridi will miss several matches against New Zealand.

Sources indicate that he’ll be “rested” for the first two matches of the five-match T20I series due to the team’s rotation policy to manage workload ahead of the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup in June.

However, he’s expected to join for the last three matches.

Recently, Shaheen was replaced as captain by Babar Azam, with the PCB citing strategic reasons to ensure player well-being and peak performance.

The decision reflects the board’s commitment to maintaining the longevity of players, particularly fast bowlers, following past injury concerns.

Both Pakistan and New Zealand squads have assembled in Islamabad after the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays.
