Islamabad : Serious questions have been raised over alleged negligence at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) following an incident in the newborn ward.

The victim’s family and eyewitnesses reportedly spoke to Minute Mirror, describing the circumstances surrounding the incident and raising concerns about the absence of medical staff from the ward.

According to their accounts, at the time of the incident, the duty doctor, nurses and other staff members were allegedly not present in the newborn ward and were reportedly sleeping in other rooms. The ward door was also allegedly locked, raising serious questions about the safety and supervision of newborn babies.

The family and eyewitnesses have called for a transparent and impartial inquiry into the incident, seeking answers from the hospital administration regarding staff availability, ward security and arrangements for continuous monitoring of newborn patients.

The PIMS administration should clarify the circumstances and explain what action, if any, has been taken. The allegations should be independently investigated, and the staff concerned should be given an opportunity to respond before responsibility is established.
