PM accepts Lt. Gen. Faiz Hamid’s early retirement request

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif accepted the early retirement request of Lieutenant General Faiz Hamid on Friday.

According to local media reports, Lt. Gen. Hamid submitted his application to GHQ a few days ago, which then forwarded it to the Prime Minister’s Office for approval through the defence ministry.

Lt. Gen. Hamid was the corps commander in Peshawar and the DG ISI during the PTI administration. He later took a position as a corps commander at Bahawalpur.

Faiz Hamid’s announcement came after Chief of General Staff (CGS) Lt. General Azhar Abbas took a similar decision.

Following General Qamar Javed Bajwa’s retirement on November 29, 2022, the six candidates recommended for the position of chief of the army staff included the two senior military officials.

However, the PM chose General Asim Munir and he took over as head of the military on the same day.
