Policeman arrested for taking bribes from kite string manufacturers

Head investigator of Punjab police has been arrested for allegedly accepting bribes from manufacturers of chemical kite strings.

The incident took place at Ghulam Mohammadabad police station, where Ibrahim, the investigation in-charge, was apprehended by a special police team while taking a bribe from chemical kite string manufacturers in Faisalabad.

Following the arrest, the Regional Police Officer (RPO) suspended all staff members, including the Station House Officer (SHO), Ali Imran, at Ghulam Mohammadabad police station. An inquiry into the matter has been ordered by SSP Operations Hasan Javed.

This action comes as part of a crackdown initiated by Punjab Police against kite-flying and selling across the province, following directives from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

The police have been registering cases and apprehending kite and chemical string makers, while also issuing public warnings against engaging in kite-flying activities.

In Lahore, 29 kite flyers were arrested, and kites along with chemical strings were confiscated. Similarly, police monitoring of high-rise buildings led to the seizure of 2,000 kites and 50 chemical-laced strings from a kite-seller in Khushab.

Furthermore, raids on string-making factories in Faisalabad resulted in the arrest of 13 individuals involved in the illicit business. Metal string-making machines, kites, and raw materials were also confiscated during these operations.

In separate raids on two string-making factories in Madanpura, Faisalabad, police arrested 13 kite-sellers and seized six metal string-making machines along with kites.
