Power tariff shocks

With another increase in power tariff, both consumers and producers of electricity are getting frustrated. The power sector is mired with issues like line loses, high fuel prices and poor transmission system. Recently, the country faced a temporary blackout due to an issue with transmission lines. Electricity is the most important commodity today.

Governments and private firms spend huge amounts on acquiring electricity so that production remains steady and businesses do not go in losses. Pakistan has also faced a lot of load shedding due to lack of electricity provision and lack of initiative by governments to create new resources. With Pakistan being the fifth most vulnerable country to climate change, it is high time and huge investments start pouring in the renewable energy sector which use sustainable methods to create the commodity. Other than firms and the government, the general public should also move towards using renewable energy sources.

There are a lot of options available now for those who are looking for such resources.
Electricity generation from solar power is the most popular among households and small and large businesses and it is an easy way to use this resource that is readily available in Pakistan, which is ample sunlight. Moreover, energy conservation is also extremely important. Pakistan gets a lot of day light hours and they must be utilized. There should be a shift in timetables for offices, schools and universities so that all of these are closed before the sun goes down. This way lots of electricity that is used in the evening can be saved as during the daylight hours lights are not required. Energy conservation and using sustainable energy sources is the future. If we stick to traditional methods of producing electricity we will be at a great loss in terms of environmental degradation and a further increased in circular debt. Therefore, it is high time that Pakistan adopts these methods as early as possible.
