President Zardari urges special attention for gems, jewellery sector

President Asif Ali Zardari stressed the potential of Pakistan’s gem and jewellery industry to bolster foreign exchange reserves, urging concerted efforts to nurture and develop this sector.

During a meeting dedicated to discussing the industry’s advancement, Zardari highlighted the importance of enhancing marketing strategies and promoting Pakistani gemstone products on a global scale.

Accompanied by senior government officials and the CEO of the Pakistan Gems and Jewellery Development Company (PGJDC), Muhammad Alamgir Chaudhry, President Zardari acknowledged the untapped potential of Pakistan’s gems and jewellery sector. He called for attracting foreign investment to this industry, which could not only enhance the nation’s economic outlook but also create job opportunities for the local populace.

Zardari stressed the significance of investing in the training and skill development of the domestic workforce, alongside promoting diversification and industrial growth within the sector to maximize its contribution to the national economy.

During the meeting, the CEO of PGJDC outlined the strategic roadmap for sectoral development, shedding light on the challenges faced by the gem and jewellery industry in Pakistan.
