Punjab Chief Minsiter Maryam Nawaz sets up tax consultancy unit

Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz has approved the establishment of a Tax Consultancy Unit. Emphasizing the importance of expanding the tax base, she highlighted the need to bring more individuals into the tax net and rationalize house taxes.

In a review meeting chaired by the Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Department in Lahore, several significant decisions were made. The construction of three police stations dedicated to narcotics control received approval, alongside the proposal to establish a new department specifically for anti-narcotics operations.

Furthermore, directives were issued by the Chief Minister to clear the backlog of motor vehicle registration plates promptly. Additionally, Nawaz called for an assessment report on tax disparities based on rental values and DC rates.

During the briefing, plans were outlined to establish 13 excise check posts to curb smuggling and drug trafficking. The introduction of an e-title document for vehicle e-registration was announced, contributing to a 12.5% increase in tax collection.

The rehabilitation of an opium factory was reviewed, with an estimated benefit of Rs 900 million for the pharmaceutical sector. Moreover, the Excise Department will provide services through the Dastak program, while collaborating with the Safe City Authority to facilitate challan recovery.

Under the proactive leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, these initiatives aim to enhance tax compliance, combat narcotics trafficking, and streamline administrative processes for the benefit of the province and its citizens.
