PESHAWAR: Senior political leaders on Sunday called on the federal government to take immediate steps to address what they described as a growing sense of deprivation among the people and business community of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
The call was made during a meeting between former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi at the Governor House in Peshawar. Several political figures, including PTI K-P President Junaid Akbar Khan and members of the National Assembly, were also present.
At the outset of the meeting, prayers were offered for those who lost their lives in the recent Bannu tragedy. The participants expressed solidarity with the affected families and prayed for the departed souls.
During their discussion, the leaders reviewed key issues facing the province, including concerns over provincial rights, the wheat situation and the closure of CNG stations. They voiced unease over what they termed an unsatisfactory federal response to the wheat crisis and stressed the need for fair treatment of the province in resource allocation matters.
The meeting also covered issues related to the National Finance Commission Award and challenges confronting the merged districts. Participants emphasized that unresolved taxation matters in the erstwhile FATA and PATA regions were adding to the difficulties faced by traders and local residents.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Kundi said the federation must listen to representatives from all sectors and ensure that longstanding grievances are resolved through dialogue and cooperation. He added that he had discussed the concerns with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who assured full support in addressing the province’s issues.
Both sides agreed that constructive engagement between the centre and the province is essential to ease tensions and promote economic stability in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
