Rainfall brings relief from heat across Punjab

Light to moderate rainfall was recorded in different areas of the provincial capital, including Abbott Road, Model Road, Islampura, and surrounding localities. The showers significantly lowered temperatures and improved weather conditions, providing respite to citizens struggling with hot and humid conditions.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Lahore’s temperature was recorded at 31 degrees Celsius during the day. The minimum temperature remained at 29°C, while the maximum temperature is expected to rise to around 36°C. However, cloud cover and intermittent rain are likely to keep weather conditions comparatively pleasant.

The rainfall was not limited to Lahore. Several districts across Punjab, including Gujrat and Jhelum, also experienced heavy downpours. The rain led to water accumulation in low-lying areas, causing difficulties for commuters and disrupting traffic flow on major roads and streets.

Authorities reported that the heavy rainfall also affected electricity supply in some areas after multiple power feeders tripped during the downpour. Residents in several localities faced temporary power outages, while utility teams were deployed to restore services as quickly as possible.

Meteorologists have indicated that the current weather system is likely to remain active over parts of the country during the next few days. The PMD has forecast additional rainfall in the upper regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Upper Dir, Swat, Kohistan, and Waziristan. Thunderstorms and gusty winds may accompany the rain in some areas.

Meanwhile, weather experts have also predicted rainfall in parts of Balochistan, particularly in Khuzdar, Kohlu, and Barkhan districts. The ongoing weather system is expected to influence several regions, increasing the chances of scattered showers and thunderstorms.

Officials have advised citizens, especially those living in low-lying and flood-prone areas, to remain cautious during periods of heavy rainfall. Local administrations have been instructed to monitor drainage systems and ensure prompt action to prevent urban flooding.
