Sajal Aly says acting lets her express what life restricts

Sajal Aly reflected on her passion for acting and what continues to draw her to the craft during a recent masterclass.

Sajal Aly has always been one of Pakistan’s most instinctive performers, and in a recent masterclass appearance, she spoke honestly about why acting feels less like a career choice and more like a personal necessity.
Speaking at a masterclass hosted by makeup artist and creative director Babar Zaheer, Sajal reflected on her relationship with the craft and what keeps drawing her back to it. She said she cannot imagine having chosen any other profession, and that acting gives her access to a range of emotions that everyday life in Pakistani society tends to suppress.
“I don’t think there would have been a better career or profession for me than acting,” she said. “I get to explore emotions that I feel are often restricted in our society. Whether it’s laughing a certain way, speaking freely or simply expressing yourself, acting allows me to do things that might otherwise feel limited.”
