The opposition has initiated a motion of no-confidence against Scotland’s First Minister, Hamza Haroon Yousaf. Reports from British media indicate that Yousaf is facing internal discord within the coalition party Scottish Green, making it challenging for him to secure a vote of confidence.

British media sources have highlighted the dynamics: Hamza Yousaf enjoys the support of 63 members from his Scottish National Party, but opposition parties also command 63 parliamentary members. In case of a tie, tradition dictates that the presiding officer will cast the deciding vote, typically in favor of the government.

Hamza Yousaf, of Pakistani descent, assumed the role of First Minister (equivalent to Prime Minister) of Scotland on March 29, 2023. Notably, he holds the distinction of being the youngest and first Asian Muslim First Minister in Scotland’s history.
