Shaheen Afridi likely to lead Pakistan in Afghan series, Babar Azam to rest

Pakistani captain Babar Azam is to rest in the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan and Shaheen Shah Afridi may be named the stand-in captain.

According to local media reports citing sources aware of the arrangement, Mohammad Rizwan will also receive a break for the series that will be played in the United Arab Emirates.

Moreover, the selectors are expected to choose Saim Ayub, Haseebullah Khan, Azam Khan, and pacer Ihsanullah for the series. The selection of all-rounders Faheem Ashraf and Imad Wasim is also up for grabs.

The change occurs a day after the three-match T20I series between Pakistan and Afghanistan’s schedule was altered.

The matches were originally scheduled to take place at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on March 25, 27, and 29. They will now play in the same stadium on March 24, 26, and 27.

In addition, Muhammad Yousuf, a former Pakistan cricket captain, is expected to be selected as the team’s interim head coach for the series against Afghanistan.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which was unable to reach an agreement with Mickey Arthur about the job of head coach, is expected to make the decision.
