KARACHI: Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, the Sindh Minister of Culture, Tourism, Antiquities, and Archives, has said that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari wants their libraries equipped with the latest books, ensuring easy access to all facilities, including books, for students in Sindh. He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting of the Directorate of Public Libraries, Sindh.
DG Libraries Sindh, Ejaz Ahmed Sheikh, while briefing Minister Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, mentioned that there are currently 44 public libraries in all six divisions of Sindh, and due to a large number of students and book readers, the libraries need expansion.
He noted that due to no recruitment of required staff since 2013, 419 out of 645 posts from grade 1 to 19 have been lying vacant, resulting in severe staff shortages for the Directorate of Public Libraries.
He further briefed that for the convenience of readers, more than 100 million books are available on the e-library portal, enabling readers to study their favorite books at any time and from anywhere.
Mr. Shah stated that their intentions were firm in providing a conducive environment for students as well as common readers. “I will soon visit all libraries to review public facilities and modern books,” he added.
He warned that any falsehood, incorrect briefing, or excuses related to public interest would never be tolerated.
Present at the occasion were DG Libraries Sindh Ejaz Sheikh, Directors of Libraries Mohammad Arshad Patoli, Ghulam Sarwar Channar, Bashir Baloch, Shabbir Leghari, Abdul Majid, and Assistant Directors Gul Muneer Jarwar, Javed Iqbal, Sheeraz Sheikh, and others.
