KARACHI: Senior Sindh Police officer Irfan Ali Baloch has been recommended for appointment as the Inspector General (IG) of Police in Azad Kashmir, sources confirmed. The recommendation comes following the recent Azad Kashmir elections, as the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) initiated the process of selecting a new IG for the region.
According to these reports, two senior Sindh Police officers had been considered for the position and Irfan Ali Baloch, currently serving as DIG West Zone, Karachi was the preferred candidate for approval from the federal government. The police official is a Grade-20 officer of the Police Service of Pakistan.
Belonging to Shikarpur, Baloch is widely credited for his acumen in dealing with law-and-order assignments amidst difficult situations. He previously served as DIG for Karachi’s South Zone where he earned a reputation for keeping street crimes and maintaining public order under control.
Baloch, during his posting as Senior Superintendent of Police in Hyderabad, won renown for implementing a commanding approach to unrest and urban crime that earned him recognition across Sindh Police ranks. According to sources, Baloch’s vast operational experience coupled with tactical skills befits him to lead the Azad Kashmir police force amidst regional security challenges.
