The Fall Guy: Ryan Gosling movie is a love letter to stunt performers

In “The Fall Guy,” actor Ryan Gosling pays homage to the often-overlooked heroes of the movie industry: stunt performers.

Inspired by the 1980s TV series of the same name, the film follows Gosling’s character, Colt Seavers, a Hollywood stuntman facing tough times after an on-set accident.

When a film’s leading man disappears, Colt is recruited by an ambitious producer, played by Hannah Waddingham, to rescue the directorial debut of his love interest, Jody, portrayed by Emily Blunt.

As Colt embarks on a mission to find the missing star and unravel a criminal conspiracy, he must showcase his best performance both on and off-screen to save the movie and himself.

Speaking at the film’s London premiere, Gosling emphasized his admiration for stunt performers, acknowledging their crucial role in movie-making.

Blunt echoed this sentiment, describing the film as a tribute to stunt performers and the collaborative effort behind filmmaking.

Directed by David Leitch, a former stunt double turned director, “The Fall Guy” features daring action sequences shot with real stunts, including a Guinness World Record-breaking cannon roll performed by Gosling’s stunt double, Logan Holladay.

Leitch emphasized the film’s commitment to showcasing classic stunts and celebrating the talent of stunt performers.

Stunt coordinator Chris O’Hara received a “stunt designer” credit, highlighting the multifaceted nature of his role and advocating for industry recognition.

As the film gears up for its global release, it aims to shine a light on the often-overlooked contributions of stunt performers and elevate their status within the film industry.
