Two women and a child were mauled to death when a blood-starved leopard broke into a house in Onda Wenai – a remote mountainous area of Matta tehsil in Swat – and attacked them on late Wednesday.
Sixty-year-old Kabuli, 40-year-old Jahan Begum and six-year-old Rubina died on the spot as a result of the attack. Swat DPO Zahid Nawaz Marwat said that according to locals and available evidence, the death of the women and the girl was due to the attack of a “bloodthirsty animal”.
He said the bodies had been shifted to the Matta Civil Hospital for a postmortem and a formal inquiry would be held in this regard. The villagers are of the view that a large number of leopards have been spotted in the area and they have also attacked the people before. Last year, a leopard was killed on a hill in the same area.
