West Indies women edge Pakistan in first T20I

In the opening match of the five-match T20I series at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi, the West Indies women’s cricket team narrowly defeated Pakistan by just one run.

Despite winning the toss and opting to bat first, West Indies captain Hayley Matthews’ decision didn’t yield substantial results as her team could only manage a modest total on the scoreboard, despite resilient performances from Qiana Joseph and Stafanie Taylor.

The visiting team encountered a shaky start to their innings, losing early wickets including their captain Matthews and wicketkeeper-batter Shemaine Campbelle within the first four overs with only 14 runs on the board.

However, Taylor and Joseph collaborated to stabilize the innings, stitching together a crucial partnership of 55 runs for the third wicket before Taylor’s dismissal triggered a collapse.

Taylor contributed significantly with a well-made 30 off 32 balls, featuring four boundaries.

Joseph, the top-scorer for West Indies, followed suit shortly after, falling prey to Nida Dar after scoring a valuable 34 off 36 deliveries, inclusive of four boundaries.

Subsequently, West Indies struggled to maintain momentum, losing wickets at regular intervals and ultimately settling for a modest total.

Fatima Sana spearheaded the bowling attack for Pakistan women with figures of 3/24, while Sadia Iqbal claimed two wickets.

Diana Baig, Nida Dar, and Tuba Hasan also chipped in with one wicket each.

The match concluded with West Indies clinching victory by the narrowest of margins.

Here’s a summary of the scores:

WEST INDIES WOMEN 122/9 (Qiana Joseph 34, Stafanie Taylor 30; Fatima Sana 3-24, Sadia Iqbal 2-23) defeated

PAKISTAN WOMEN 121/8 (Nida Dar 27, Sidra Ameen 23; Karishma Ramharack 4-15) by 1 run.
