359 polling stations in Sujawal district lack basic facilities

Around 359 polling stations of Sujawal district have been deprived of basic facilities in Sujawal district, this Correspondent learnt on Sunday. Education works and services had received 90 millions for the purpose of maintaining the school buildings to be used as polling stations on the day of elections.

During the survey conducted by a team of journalists on Sunday it emerged that around 359 polling stations across the district lacked even basic facilities including the facility of latrine and drinking water.

It was also disclosed by the concerned authorities that many of them have been declared as female- polling stations. Buildings of polling stations located in remote areas of the district including Shahbunnder and Jati taluka were in dilapidated condition.

As many as 18 buildings were not even in usable condition. Local residents told reporters that no one among the high ups had taken this issue seriously.

They warned that people would not come to vote in the areas where the polling stations were in derelict condition. Members of civil society lamented the alleged misappropriation of funds and called for strict accountability.

When this Correspondent approached officials of the education works department they evaded from responding to his questions.
