90,853 malaria cases reported in Sindh

Sindh has reported more than 90,000 malaria cases so far this year, according to figures released by the Sindh Health Department, highlighting the continued prevalence of the mosquito-borne disease across the province.

The department reported a total of 90,853 malaria cases across Sindh. Hyderabad Division recorded the highest number of cases with 35,094, followed by Larkana Division with 27,057 cases.

Sukkur Division reported 9,949 cases, while Shaheed Benazirabad recorded 10,200 cases. Mirpur Khas also reported a significant number, with 7,781 malaria cases recorded during the year.

In Karachi, health authorities recorded 772 cases. District Malir reported the highest number in the city with 249 cases, followed by District South with 164 and District West with 140 cases.

Korangi recorded 135 cases, while District Central reported 36 cases. District East recorded 34 cases, and Keamari reported the lowest number among Karachi’s districts, with 14 cases.

Health officials continue to monitor the situation across the province, particularly in areas where mosquito breeding can increase because of stagnant water and poor drainage. Authorities have urged residents to take preventive measures, including avoiding standing water, using mosquito nets or repellents and keeping their surroundings clean.

The latest figures underline the need for sustained mosquito-control and public awareness measures, particularly in districts that continue to report high numbers of malaria infections.
