Argentine footballer loses family in Venezuela earthquake

Argentine footballer Lucas Trejo has lost his wife and two children in the devastating earthquake that struck Venezuela.

After 74 hours of search efforts, the bodies of Trejo’s wife, Yanina Maranila, and their two young children, Harun and Enhua, were recovered from the rubble.

The 38-year-old footballer is mourning the tragic loss of his family, who lived in Playa Grande, where their apartment building collapsed during the powerful earthquakes that struck the country on Wednesday.

At the time of the disaster, Trejo was in Caracas preparing for a league match with his club. After losing contact with his family following the earthquake, he made a public appeal for help in locating them.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the devastating earthquake in Venezuela has risen to 1,430, with 3,360 people injured and approximately 69,000 still missing.

Authorities said that seven Chinese nationals were among those killed.

Rescue operations are continuing, with thousands of injured people pulled from the rubble so far. However, hopes of finding more survivors are fading as time passes.

The disaster was caused by two powerful earthquakes that struck just 40 seconds apart, followed by 430 aftershocks over the past three days, further complicating rescue efforts.
