Armless driver pursues racing dream

Meet 23 year old Callum Smith who is making history as a racing driver despite being born without arms.

Smith drives a racing car using his feet and hopes to compete one day in the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans sports car race in France.

Driving with his feet

Smith has already reached speeds of around 110 miles per hour on a racing track.

He uses a specially

designed steering plate that allows him to control the car with his feet.

His left foot controls the steering while his right foot operates the accelerator and brake. The special steering system was designed by Jim Doran Hand Controls to help him race safely and effectively.

From a Childhood dream to the track

Smith became interested in racing when he was just two years old after  watching a motorcycle race with his grandfather.

He completed his first track day in July 2025. In April 2026, he drove around a 3.66 mile circuit at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour.

He has now secured his first driver contract and joined Team BRIT, a team known for supporting drivers with disabilities.

Aiming for a racing license

Smith currently works as a finance assistant at a company in England, but racing remains his biggest passion.

He hopes to obtain a full racing license soon and compete in official racing events.

“I’m going to be the first person to race without arms,” Smith said, describing his ambition to make history in motorsport.
