Azam Khan’s participation in New Zealand T20I series uncertain

Wicketkeeper-batter Azam Khan’s participation in the T20I series against New Zealand, commencing today, was in doubt following reports from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) stating he was undergoing medical treatment for discomfort in his right leg.

According to the PCB statement, Azam encountered discomfort in his right knee and calf muscle during Wednesday’s training session while batting in the nets.

Immediate medical attention was provided, and he is presently under the care of the medical team.

His inclusion in the upcoming matches against New Zealand depends on the outcome of radiology reports.

Pakistan is set to host New Zealand for five T20Is, beginning in Rawalpindi on April 18, as both teams prepare for the T20 World Cup in the United States and the West Indies in June.

Azam, who last played for Pakistan against Afghanistan in March 2023, has been named in the squad. Bilal Afzal, a member of the national selection team, emphasized Azam’s performance statistics and the strategies devised by the coach and captain during a press conference in Lahore.

Afzal expressed the committee’s intention to provide Azam with ample opportunity, hoping that his confidence would soar in the lead-up to the T20 World Cup.
