A child was martyred and at least five others, including children, were injured when a suicide attack was thwarted near a mosque in Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday.
According to local sources, the attacker belonging to Fitna al-Khawarij attempted to enter a mosque during Friday prayers in the Khairo Khel Pakka area.
Residents of the area acted swiftly and stopped the suicide bomber from entering the mosque premises.
Officials said the attacker was neutralised on the spot by locals before he could reach inside the place of worship.
However, explosives attached to the bomber’s motorcycle detonated shortly afterwards, causing a deadly blast outside the mosque.
As a result, a five-year-old girl was martyred in the explosion.
Five others, including children, sustained injuries and were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Security forces reached the site soon after the incident and cordoned off the area.
A search operation was launched to clear the area and investigate possible further threats.
Authorities are gathering evidence to determine the network behind the attempted attack.
Security officials said such incidents highlight the ongoing threat of terrorism in the region.
Pakistan has seen a rise in militant activity in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan in recent years.
Officials reaffirmed their commitment to continue counter-terror operations to eliminate militant networks and protect civilians.
