A Karachi resident has filed a massive compensation lawsuit worth 178.7 million Rupees in the Karachi Civil Court after losing an eye in a road accident linked to the construction of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Red Line project.
The damages claim was filed in the court of the Senior Civil Judge East against the Sindh government, the BRT Red Line project director, and the active construction contractor. According to the petitioner’s legal counsel, Usman Farooq Advocate, the plaintiff, Syed Waqas, was traveling to the airport at night in May 2025 to depart for Hajj when his vehicle collided with a concrete barrier positioned in the middle of University Road. The lawyer maintained that the barrier lacked any reflective indicators, hazard tape, or warning signage, making it invisible to motorists in the dark.
The high-impact collision resulted in Syed Waqas losing one of his eyes and sustaining multiple severe fractures to his facial bones. The petition argues that the project administration and contractors completely failed to implement mandatory safety protocols and public protection guidelines during the execution of the transport corridor. The court has been urged to order the named parties to pay the damages to cover medical treatments, long-term rehabilitation, permanent disability, and livelihood losses caused by the severe physical trauma.
