Is Mahnoor Safdar’s necklace really worth $15 million?

Mahnoor Safdar, daughter of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, has attracted considerable attention over the jewellery she wore at her nikkah ceremony, with social media users focusing particularly on her necklace and earrings.

The jewellery, attributed to luxury jeweller Mouawad, features yellow and white diamonds and formed a prominent part of Mahnoor’s bridal look. The necklace design includes a large yellow diamond at its centre, described by the jewellery company as the Mouawad Dragon.

According to the company’s description, the centrepiece is a 54.21-carat round brilliant-cut Fancy Vivid yellow diamond. Mouawad describes the stone as one of the most exceptional yellow diamonds of its kind.

The necklace is part of a larger jewellery set that includes earrings, a bracelet and a ring. Mahnoor, however, was seen wearing the necklace and matching earrings, along with diamond rings and a Rolex watch.

Reports circulating on social media have claimed that the necklace and earrings could be worth around $15 million, equivalent to roughly Rs4.15 billion or Rs450 crore. However, the reported figure has not been independently verified, and the jewellery company has not publicly confirmed that price for the pieces worn by Mahnoor.

Adding to the uncertainty, some social media users have pointed out that the necklace appears similar to a Royal Carina Statement Necklace associated with Anna Zuckerman, which is listed at a significantly lower price. It is also possible that Mahnoor’s jewellery was customised, making comparisons with publicly listed designs unreliable.

For this reason, the widely circulated $15 million valuation should be treated as an unverified estimate rather than a confirmed price.

Mahnoor’s Rolex watch has also attracted attention, with its value estimated by social media users at around $11,000, or approximately Rs3 million.

Mahnoor recently married Azan Jabbar, the son of industrialist Jabbar Khalid. The couple have also drawn attention because they share an academic connection: Azan holds a bachelor’s degree from SOAS University of London, where Mahnoor recently completed her studies.

The fascination surrounding the jewellery also highlights the extraordinary value of natural coloured diamonds. Yellow diamonds are considerably rarer than conventional colourless diamonds, with natural coloured diamonds occurring far less frequently.

Their distinctive yellow colour is caused by nitrogen within the diamond structure absorbing certain wavelengths of light during the stone’s formation deep beneath the Earth’s surface. The value of such diamonds does not simply increase according to their size. Large stones with intense, vivid colour can command exponentially higher prices because high-quality rough diamonds of this type are exceptionally scarce.
