COAS Gen Bajwa’s expected visit of US being finalized

Visit expected in late August or early September, two sides have been trying to make arrangements for more than a year, says report

Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa is expected to visit the United States soon as the exact dates of the planned trip are being finalized.

The officials of Pakistan and US have been in contact to consider various options for the visit of COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

The visit could take place in the end of August or early September. For more than a year, the two sides have been have been trying to arrange the visit of the COAS to US and it would be finalized soon, according to a media report quoting diplomatic circles and think tanks.

Pakistan and US have been in close cooperation with each other since the cold war especially in the fields of defence and security. The relationship between the two countries have been low since the ousted former prime minister Imran Khan had alleged that his government was brought down by the US administration with the help of his local political rivals. US officials have repeatedly denied the allegations of Imran Khan.

The army chief also spoke to US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman to seek help over early disbursement of funds from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
