Custodial death victim’s parents want SHO booked

Relatives of Noor Muhammad Malah, aka Nurooh Malah, who was found dead in mysterious circumstances in police custody, have expressed grave concern about the inquiry launched into his death.

The relatives of the victim have claimed that a few influential figures of the area in collision with police high-ups were trying to divert the probe in the wrong direction to protect the real culprits.

People from different segments of life kept pouring in at the thatched house of the deceased to express solidarity with the bereaved parents.

Rejecting police’s version of “suicide”, the father of Noor Muhammad Malah said that his son had died as a result of a severe beating by police after which they hanged him to make it look like a suicide.

He further said that his son was innocent and had fallen prey to police brutality but they would never bargain on it. Maher Debahi, a revolutionary poet of Sindh who had come to offer condolences, said that the law and order situation across Sindh has turned worse but Sindh Police was busy making such headlines. He added that the police had no right to torture an accused during detention.

“We will raise our voice so that justice could be served to the bereaved family. We will demand a fair and neutral probe into the custodial death of the innocent laborer,” he said. Parents of the deceased accuse the local police of lodging a weak FIR without their consent.

“We demand a direct FIR against SHO and his subordinates who are involved in the murder of our son and demand the chief justice take suo motu action over police brutality,” they said.
