Damaged screen protector can be unsafe

Most people use screen protectors on their phones to provide additional protection to the display. Different types of screen protectors are available on the market. Some are made of soft film while others are glass-based.

If a phone falls from a certain height onto the floor or comes into contact with a sharp object in a pocket, the screen protector can become damaged. Over time, this can cause the protector to crack. But is it safe to continue using a phone with a badly damaged screen protector?

For example, using a phone with a severely cracked protector can cause your fingers to be cut by sharp edges. If the screen protector is significantly damaged, parts of the screen may remain unprotected, increasing the risk of damage.

In addition, certain areas of the touchscreen may stop responding properly. Experts therefore recommend replacing a damaged screen protector rather than continuing to use it.

Over time, a damaged protector can become more difficult to remove and may even cause scratches on the phone’s screen particularly around the edges and corners.

When you decide to replace the screen protector, remove it carefully to avoid injury or damaging the screen underneath.

First, turn off the phone and remove its case. Then, use a thin plastic card to gently lift one corner of the protector. Once the protector has been removed, clean the phone’s screen with a microfiber cloth.
