Disha Patani is all set to make her mark globally with her upcoming film Holiguards Saga, The Portal of Force. Ahead of its release, the actor shared her experience working alongside Kevin Spacey, who is also directing the project, and what it genuinely takes to make it in international cinema.
Disha revealed that instead of following a strict script-driven method, Spacey encourages his cast to channel their own experiences into their performance. “He is amazing. Being an actor, he understands his actors. He is one of the finest actors in the world. He gives his actors a lot of space to experiment,” she said.
She went on to explain that Spacey often asked the cast to reflect on how they would personally respond in a given moment, nudging them to consider their genuine emotional reactions and how they might convey them on screen. Disha also revealed that Spacey made it a point to go through each scene with the cast before filming began. “Every morning, he would sit with us and take us through the scene. I found that really special. I don’t think I had done that with any of the creators in the past,” she shared, adding that this approach also meant taking ownership of how a character is understood and portrayed.
While many assume that breaking into Hollywood comes down to sheer talent, Disha clarified that the reality involves a lot more groundwork, from representation and auditions to logistical hurdles like visa processes. “A lot depends on accessibility,” she noted.
She elaborated that the Hollywood system relies heavily on structured audition processes, and one’s chances often hinge on availability, representation, and sometimes sheer luck, since industry insiders occasionally reach out after simply noticing someone’s existing work. She added that visa requirements and other logistical factors also play a significant role, making the entire process far more technical than people assume.
Disha also stressed that physical presence in the country is just as important as the audition itself. She said that while initial auditions can happen remotely, actors eventually need to travel and spend time there to actually build a career, a rule she believes applies to breaking into any international market, not just Hollywood.
