ISLAMABAD: The federal government has approved amendments to the National Electricity Plan 2023–2027 as part of efforts to ensure affordable and reliable electricity for consumers.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Energy, where officials reviewed the country’s power sector, including the financial position of the electricity industry and the implementation of the existing national electricity plan.
The Power Division presented proposed amendments to the National Electricity Plan 2023–2027 during the meeting. After reviewing the proposals, the committee approved the changes aimed at strengthening the energy framework and improving electricity supply at reasonable prices.
The committee also directed the relevant authorities to hold further consultations with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) before moving ahead with the proposed measures.
Officials briefed the meeting on the challenges facing the power sector and the need for coordinated planning to improve its financial sustainability. The government also emphasized the importance of developing an integrated energy strategy that can support consumers while addressing wider issues within the electricity market.
