EU calls for independent investigation into Gaza mass graves

The European Union has urged for an independent investigation into the discovery of mass graves at Gaza’s Nasser and al-Shifa medical facilities.

EU spokesman Peter Stano emphasized the need for an impartial inquiry, stating, “This is something that forces us to call for an independent investigation of all the suspicions and all the circumstances, because indeed it creates the impression that there might have been violations of international human rights committed.”

The call for an investigation comes after Palestinian civil defense crews reported uncovering over 300 bodies at the gravesites. The United Nations has also demanded a transparent inquiry, stressing the importance of international involvement due to the existing climate of impunity.

UN human rights office spokeswoman Ravina Shamdasani highlighted disturbing details, mentioning that some of the bodies at Nasser Hospital were allegedly “found with their hands tied and stripped of their clothes.”
