The Bahawalpur Zone of the Federal Board of Revenue Federal Board of Revenue has achieved a historic milestone by recovering more than Rs 530 million in outstanding taxes from the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, marking what officials describe as the largest recovery from a single institution in the region’s history.

According to Commissioner FBR Bahawalpur Zone Mumtaz Khan, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur had accumulated tax liabilities amounting to approximately Rs 609 million. Following enforcement action and compliance measures initiated by the tax authorities, a substantial portion of the dues—Rs 530 million—has now been successfully recovered.

The Commissioner stated that this achievement reflects a broader and more aggressive tax recovery drive launched across the Bahawalpur region over the past year. He noted that the zone has collected over Rs 1 billion in income tax arrears during multiple enforcement operations, setting a new benchmark for revenue collection in the area.

He further explained that the recovery campaign was not limited to a single institution but also targeted various sectors, including private healthcare providers, medical practitioners, hotel owners, and industrial units such as mills. These coordinated efforts, he added, contributed significantly to improving overall tax compliance in the region.

Officials described the development as unprecedented, emphasizing that such a high level of recovery within a one-year period had not previously been achieved in Bahawalpur Zone’s history.
