Federal education authorities criticised for changing spring break schedule

The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) is facing backlash over its inconsistent and perplexing spring vacation schedule for educational institutions in Islamabad.

On Wednesday, the FDE announced that all educational institutions under its purview would observe spring break from April 8 to 12. Additionally, the Directorate stated that the new academic session would commence on April 15.

However, the FDE’s announcement has been met with criticism from teaching staff due to its disregard for academic needs. Concerns have been raised about the overlap between these spring vacations and the anticipated Eidul Fitr holidays, which are likely to fall on the same dates.

Teachers argue that spring vacations are meant to provide much-needed respite for both teachers and students after the conclusion of the academic session on March 31st. A female teacher emphasized the necessity of a break to rejuvenate and prepare for the upcoming academic session after a strenuous term.

She noted a lack of awareness among FDE authorities regarding the academic requirements of institutions and called for the appointment of a regular Director General by the federal government.

It is worth mentioning that previously, the FDE had announced a spring break from April 1 to 7, 2024. The sudden change in schedule has sparked severe criticism from stakeholders.

In response, teaching staff has urged authorities to reconsider their decision and adhere to the original vacation schedule.
