Five young men were killed in a horrific road accident on Multan’s Bosan Road early Monday after their speeding car hit a road divider, crashed into a wall and caught fire, Rescue 1122 said.
The victims, all residents of Shujaabad, were travelling in a Toyota Corolla when the accident occurred at around 4am on October 19, according to a police report.
The vehicle reportedly struck a road divider before crashing into the wall of a nearby plot. The impact caused the car to catch fire, leaving all five occupants with fatal injuries.
Rescue 1122 confirmed that all five men died at the scene. Emergency responders subsequently brought the fire under control and recovered the bodies from the wreckage.
A passerby alerted the rescue control room at approximately 4:15am, around 15 minutes after the reported time of the crash.
According to Rescue 1122, three of the deceased were aged 22, 23 and 28, while the remaining two were estimated to be around 24 or 25 years old. All five had sustained severe head injuries, the rescue service said.
The bodies were shifted to Nishtar Hospital in Multan for further legal and medical procedures.
The crash has once again highlighted the dangers associated with speeding and the vulnerability of young motorists to serious road accidents. However, the precise circumstances leading to the collision were not detailed in the initial report.
Road Accidents Remain a Major Concern in Punjab
The tragedy comes amid continuing concerns over the high number of road traffic accidents across Punjab.
According to Rescue 1122 figures cited by Dawn, emergency services recorded 43,160 road traffic crashes across the province in May, resulting in 23,013 serious injuries and 434 deaths.
The figures prompted concern from the department’s secretary over the scale of road accidents and their toll on public safety.
The Multan crash adds to the mounting concern over fatal road incidents involving young people. Authorities continue to face the challenge of improving road safety and preventing accidents that claim lives and leave families devastated.
The deaths of the five Shujaabad residents underscore the potentially devastating consequences of high-speed driving, particularly when a vehicle loses control and collides with roadside obstacles.
