Former Pakistani PM Imran Khan issues warning to COAS Asim Munir

Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former Prime Minister, who is currently incarcerated, made allegations against Army chief General Asim Munir, blaming him directly for the imprisonment of his wife, Bushra Bibi.

Bushra Bibi, aged 49, has been convicted in a corruption case and for an illegal marriage with Khan, aged 71. She is currently detained at their residence in Bani Gala, Islamabad.

In a conversation with journalists at Adiala Jail, Khan accused General Asim Munir of being involved in the sentencing of his wife. He claimed that the judge who convicted her admitted to being coerced into making the decision.

Khan issued a stern warning, stating, “If anything happens to my wife, I will not spare Asim Munir. I will expose his unconstitutional and illegal actions for as long as I am alive.”

Khan criticized the state of affairs in the country, alleging a “law of the jungle” where the powerful dictate the outcomes of cases.

He pointed out the disparity in treatment, alleging that while cases against Nawaz Sharif are dismissed at will, he and his party face punishment swiftly.

Regarding the economy, Khan expressed skepticism about relying solely on loans from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), advocating instead for investment to stabilize the economy. He emphasized the need for the rule of law to attract investment, citing Saudi Arabia’s forthcoming investment as a positive development.

Khan also commented on a recent clash between police and the army in Punjab, where he claimed the police were mistreated and forced to apologize by those in power.

He accused PTI of being hindered from participating in by-elections and called for resistance against oppression, urging party workers to protect each vote.

As of now, the army has not responded to these serious allegations.
