GUJRAT: With Muharram-ul-Haram approaching, Gujrat Police have intensified security measures across the district and launched flag marches in different towns and sensitive areas to ensure peace and maintain law and order during the holy month.
The flag marches were conducted in Gujrat city, Jalalpur Jattan, Kharian, Sara-e-Alamgir and other areas under the supervision of senior police officers. Personnel from the Elite Force, traffic police and local police stations took part in the exercise. Armoured vehicles and police patrol units also accompanied the contingents during the marches.

District Police Officer Gujrat said the police were fully prepared to perform their duties during Muharram and all available resources were being utilised to maintain peace. He said security plans had been finalised in consultation with district administration officials and intelligence agencies.
According to police sources, special checking, snap inspections and patrolling have been increased across the district. Search operations are also being carried out in different localities while monitoring of entry and exit points has been enhanced. CCTV surveillance is being reviewed and security around sensitive religious sites has been strengthened.
Authorities have also started meetings with scholars belonging to different schools of thought to promote religious harmony and mutual respect during Muharram. Police officials urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and immediately report any suspicious activity.
Meanwhile, rescue services, municipal authorities and health departments have also been directed to remain alert during the month. Emergency response plans are being reviewed to deal with any unforeseen situation.
