High-level meeting on security, chaired by prime minister Shehbaz Sharif, underway

A high-level security meeting, presided over by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, is currently in progress.

According to reports, heads of security agencies, including Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir, are actively participating in the meeting. Federal Ministers, IGs, and other relevant authorities are also in attendance.

The meeting is primarily focused on discussing issues related to the security of Chinese nationals employed in Pakistan. Sources reveal that security arrangements for Chinese citizens in the country will be thoroughly reviewed, with a security audit underway.

Following a deadly blast that claimed the lives of five Chinese nationals working on the Dasu dam project in a suicide bombing in Bisham on Tuesday, China has demanded a comprehensive investigation and heightened security measures for its citizens.

In response, Islamabad has announced a prompt probe to hold the “perpetrators and accomplices” accountable for the attack.

The attack, which also resulted in the death of one Pakistani national — the driver — occurred when a suicide bomber targeted the bus transporting staff of the Dasu dam project from Islamabad to Kohistan on the Karakoram Highway.

Bisham Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Juma Rehman confirmed the incident, stating that the bus was hit by an explosive-laden vehicle approaching from Kohistan, causing it to catch fire and plunge into a ravine.

SDPO Rehman added that extensive explosives were utilized in the attack, with authorities collecting evidence and body parts of the suspected suicide bomber from the site.
