The director of the Disney film Ice Princess has spoken publicly following the unexpected death of former child actress Hayden Panettiere, remembering her as a talented, energetic and highly dedicated young performer.

Panettiere died unexpectedly on August 16, 2026, at the age of 36. The actress became widely known as a child star and appeared in Ice Princess in 2005, when she was around 15 years old.

Following the news of her death, Ice Princess director Tim Fywell shared a written tribute on August 18, recalling his experience working with Panettiere and describing the lasting impression she made on the film set.

Fywell said he was deeply saddened to learn about Panettiere’s death and remembered her as a courageous, lively and committed young actress. According to the director, she brought considerable energy to rehearsals and later transferred that enthusiasm to the screen through her natural and expressive performance.

The director also remembered Panettiere’s close working relationship with her co-star Michelle Trachtenberg, who appeared alongside her in Ice Princess. The two actresses portrayed characters who initially had a rivalry but eventually became friends in the film. Fywell described them as an impressive pair whose performances contributed significantly to the movie.

Trachtenberg herself died in February 2025 at the age of 39. With the deaths of both actresses, Fywell reflected on the memories he had of working with the two young performers nearly two decades ago.

Remembering Panettiere’s commitment to her role, Fywell described her as determined and perfectionistic. He recalled how she spent long hours practicing skating for the movie and remained intensely focused on delivering every scene as accurately and naturally as possible.
