IDB chief calls for immediate action to halt declining growth in developing nations

Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser, the head of the Islamic Development Bank, stated that since the coronavirus pandemic, developing countries have experienced severe economic challenges. If immediate action isn’t taken, their economic growth could decline further.

In his opening remarks at the Bank’s 50th anniversary Golden Jubilee meeting in Riyadh, Dr. Jasser highlighted that developing countries hold tremendous economic potential yet to be utilized.

“The world urgently needs long-term solutions that focus on sustainable infrastructure projects,” he said.

The Islamic Development Bank’s annual meeting began today in Riyadh and will continue until April 30. Representatives from 57 member countries, including Pakistan, along with observers from international and regional organizations, are attending to discuss sustainable development and corporate issues. The meeting will cover topics like Islamic banking and infrastructure investment.

In addition to the main board of directors’ meeting, other sessions will be held where experts from international and regional groups, educational institutions, and civil society will address challenges faced by the member countries.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Gambia’s finance minister met with Dr. Jasser, praising the Bank’s efforts and cooperation over four decades.
