IJT announces Nationwide Black Day over Sarhad University incident

Lahore/Islamabad – Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba Pakistan has announced a nationwide Black Day on August 25 in protest against the incident that took place at Sarhad University Islamabad.

Speaking to the media in Islamabad, IJT Pakistan Nazim-e-Aala Sahibzada Waseem Haider said that students were subjected to violence in the incident at Sarhad University. He said the matter was not merely about violence against a few students but an attempt to silence the voices of millions of students across Pakistan.

He announced that Black Day and protest demonstrations would be held at universities and colleges across the country while students would attend classes wearing black armbands.

Sahibzada Waseem Haider said that violence and bullying would not be tolerated on campuses. He said such incidents involving students in educational institutions were a matter of concern and required transparent investigations.

The Nazim-e-Aala said that the student community had confidence in the Pakistan Army which had made countless sacrifices for the country. He demanded that the Pakistan Army issue an official statement regarding the incident and assure action against the officer concerned.

He also called on the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to investigate Dr Hina and other alleged individuals responsible for the incident and ensure that legal action was taken against those involved.

Sahibzada Waseem Haider urged the government to take serious notice of the Sarhad University incident and ensure immediate, transparent and lawful action against those responsible.

He made it clear that Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba would continue its protest to safeguard students rights and maintain a peaceful environment in educational institutions.
