India-Japan historic T20I sells out ahead of landmark cricket clash

TOKYO: Cricket fans have wasted no time securing their seats for what promises to be a landmark moment in the sport’s history, with all tickets for the India-Japan T20 International on September 22 officially sold out.

The Japan Cricket Association (JCA) confirmed the sell-out, thanking supporters for their overwhelming response to the one-off fixture. The match will be played at the Sano International Cricket Ground in Tochigi Prefecture, with anticipation building around an encounter that will break new ground for both nations.

For the first time, the senior men’s cricket teams of India and Japan will meet in an official international match. While India are one of the dominant forces in world cricket, Japan are continuing to build their presence on the international stage, making the occasion particularly significant for the hosts.

The game will be played under the Suzuki Cup and will form part of celebrations marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Japan. It will also launch the “Sport 75” initiative, designed to strengthen sporting and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

The match comes just two days before the men’s cricket competition at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, giving Japan valuable exposure against India ahead of the continental event.
