India must not get off scot-free

The Foreign Office has called upon the Indian envoy to explain why a Pakistani prisoner was killed by the Indian forces. The incident is not surprising at all as Indian forces are brutal and have a knack for killing Kashmiris in the illegally occupied areas of Kashmir and along the Line of Control. There have been many incidents in the past as well where Kashmiris or Muslims living in other parts of India were killed for reasons that do not sanction cold blooded murder of someone. It is clear that their forces have been trained to kill anyone who has any affiliation with Pakistan or is fighting for their basic human rights in Kashmir or any other part of India. The never-ending crackdown on the Muslims has worsened since the BJP government came to power. Their right-wing politics and affiliation with the RSS, whose principles are similar to those of the Nazis and Mussolini, has destroyed the very fabric of the secular Indian state. Although India and Pakistan have never been close allies, let alone friends, there have been times when the relationship between the two sides was civil. However, since this fascist government took charge, Muslims are not spared for the minutest of reasons. Indian state propaganda has let the rot seep right through the surface, deep into the core of Indian society, which is on its way of self-destruction. What happens inside India is different, although citizens have their rights and must get them no matter what, there is little the international community can do for citizens other than protest.

However, the killing of a prisoner who is a national of another country violates international laws and India must be held accountable. The international community must raise its voice against this brutality as India has no right to carry out such attacks. Moreover, the circumstances of the killing as reported by the Indian authorities are intriguing as the deceased had been detained since 2003 on the premise that he was affiliated to the militant organization Lashkar-e-Taiba. He was being held at a mysterious location away from prison and was killed one fine day. This is a worrying revelation as it suggests that Pakistani prisoners in India are being treated in such an inhumane way. India must be given a lesson on how to treat prisoners and humans who are not Hindu as they clearly have forgotten that to live in a civilized world one must follow laws. But such has been the law of nature, the one with power annihilates the weak but then again society has progressed except radical right-wing Hindu nationalists who reek of fascism.
