US officials prompted the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) to urge local authorities to arrest a student in Lahore after he uploaded a video holding a weapon on social media on Thursday.
According to a local news outlet, the student, Hussain Asif posted a video on Snapchat, which showed him pulling out a pistol while sitting in his college classroom. Interpol contacted security officials in Pakistan and cited possible security threat to the students in the college.
Following the notification, the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA’s) director general (DG) ordered the cybercrime unit to take prompt action and Asif was arrested from his home in Canal Housing Society.
The pistol Asif used in the video turned out to be fake. According to media reports, FIA Director Babar Bakht Qureshi told the DG that the weapon was a toy. The DG FIA sent the incident’s report to the US administration via Interpol.
