Iran has strongly condemned a reported US military strike near Bandar Abbas in southern Iran, calling it a serious violation of international law and warning of consequences amid already fragile ceasefire conditions in the region.

According to Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei, the attack constitutes a “flagrant breach” of the United Nations Charter and Iran’s sovereignty. He urged the UN Security Council to take action against what Tehran described as repeated US aggression.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry further accused Washington of continuously undermining the ceasefire agreement that came into effect in April, citing earlier strikes in southern Iran and incidents involving maritime security in the Gulf region.

Iran also reiterated its stance that it reserves the right to defend its territorial integrity under international law, warning that it would take “all necessary measures” if attacks continue.

In a parallel development, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it launched a retaliatory strike targeting a US airbase in Kuwait, claiming the move was in response to the alleged American attack near Bandar Abbas Airport. The IRGC described the action as a warning that further aggression would be met with stronger responses.

Meanwhile, US officials maintained that their operations were defensive in nature, stating that American forces intercepted Iranian drones near the Strait of Hormuz and struck a ground control site believed to be preparing additional drone activity. Washington argued these actions were intended to preserve the ceasefire and ensure regional security.

The escalation has further strained already fragile relations between Tehran and Washington, with fears growing that continued exchanges could destabilize the broader Gulf region and disrupt global shipping routes.

European officials have also expressed concern over the situation, noting that the Strait of Hormuz remains in a “tense in-between state” where no clear resolution has been reached, raising risks for international maritime trade.

The ongoing confrontation has contributed to volatility in global energy markets, with oil prices rising amid renewed fears of wider conflict affecting one of the world’s most critical energy corridors.
